Lo Fruit Exhibition

Lo Fruit is the name of my exhibition.

With Lo Fruit I want to revisit three moments of our Mediterranean history, putting, in the center, the importance of women. The three moments are Neolithic, Ancient Greece and Renaissance.

This tour wants, in a way, to reflect the decline of this importance: the Whole, Sensuality, Mourning. In this journey we are accompanied by the fruit of the pomegranate tree, the pomegranate, present in our culture. Symbol of death and resurrection, regeneration, sensuality, passion, creation, fecundity, fertility…

The Whole

Neolithic, Anatolia 7.500 BC. The beginning.

The Neolithic part is perhaps the one that has always attracted me the most, where the woman has more relevance; a moment where she is the creator, transformer, who perpetuates and gives continuity… She tames animals and plants, woman life, the sky and the earth…

The mother goddess of Çatal Huyuk was found in Anatolia. At this time the small Paleolithic Venuses become Goddesses.

The Sensuality

Greece, 2nd century BC. Period that is the basis of our culture, rich, exuberant, unattainable…

I focus on the figure of three deities of Greek mythology: Aphrodite, Demeter and Persephone. Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty. She is the one who plants for the first time a pomegranate tree in the earth.

Demeter and Persephone, mother and daughter, goddesses of agriculture, life and fertility, represent the powers of nature, its transformation and cyclical emergence.

The six large pomegranates that Persephone eats in the underworld (eating of the dead), where Hades has abducted him, are the ones that prevent him from returning to earth; he will only be able to return every six months, the two flowering seasons…

The Mourning

Renaissance, 15th and 16th centuries. Renewing moment of the history, humanist, luminous.

I make a personal interpretation of the Pietà of Miquel Àngel that is in the Basilica of Sant Pere. Here, the mother holds her daughter. I want to talk about the loss of innocence, fragility, life, death…

The Tinglado 2 space at Moll Costa del Port de Tarragona hosts the exhibition until March 17, 2024, with the support of CEMAPT, responsible for the restoration and maintenance of the maritime heritage of the Port de Tarragona, and of the Diputació de Tarragona.
